About this event

Holiday Enchantment told through the Magic of Dance

with special guest artist Udbhav Desai

Delight in enchanting traditional Nordic legends that explore the secrets of the mythological tomtens and shimmering fairies who mysteriously appear during the Winter Solstice. Kanopy Company and Kanopy Academy dancers “narrate” their stories in expressive dance movement — ethereal in elaborate designs hand crafted by the noted NYC artist David Quinn.

Then travel to India for a festive community folk dance known as “Garba” that dates to the 15 th Century,” choreographed by South Asian guest artist Udbhav Desai who also performs in the dance. Authentic traditional costumes and jewelry worn by the dancers in “Chalo Ramiye” are from a rare collection curated by the late Bijalben Patel, a lifelong Garba choreographer and dancer.

Back stateside, the delightful and sassy “Winter in the City,” set to the iconic Leonard Bernstein score for “On the Town” and charged with fancy footwork, completes the lineup.

“On the Town” follows the fun and romantic adventures of three exuberant sailors on 24-hour leave in New York — a wonderful town. Kanopy’s “Winter in the City” is a twist on that iconic tale, with starry eyed dancers taking a city wrapped in the frosty magic of winter by storm.

Don’t miss the holiday magic!
