About this event
The Americas have contributed to a culinary diaspora that has impacted global foods and traditions since its colonization by Europe in the 1400s. Through indigenous identity, new traditions have evolved out of the conquest. As we face more modernization and global homogeneity, connection to land has slowly dissipated in daily life. Through this food series, we hope to bring forth connection to place and identity by these indigenous foods of the Americas. Reconceptualize how every ingredient is seen as medicine in our cultures, and restructure the conversation around food and what it means to each community. Potatoes and Quinoa to the Andes, Corn and Cacao to Mesoamerica, Manoomin and Sunflowers in North America. Foods that fueled civilization through vital nutrition. Our hope is to shed light to all the great ingredients and medicine these two continents have brought to the rest of the world and share the passion of medicine through food.
